Malta will host the 62nd WHO Europe regional committee meeting after obtaining acceptance by all of the 53 member states. Health ministers and delegations from all 53 member states of the WHO European Region, as well as experts in various sectors of public health will be expected to attend when the meeting is hosted in 2012.
The regional committee meeting is held on an annual basis. It is a forum where European health policies are formulated, health problems are identified and the way to address them is discussed and also where experiences from various health sectors are presented and examined.The endorsement was achieved by the Maltese delegation at the 59th regional committee meeting in Copenhagen yesterday following numerous informal bilateral meetings with representatives of several member states. The 60th and 61st meetings will be held in Russia and Azerbaijan respectively, whilst the 63rd session in 2013 will be held in Portugal.
